Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (200 to 210 KM)

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, following the winding Prithvi Highway. As you leave the bustling capital behind, the landscape transforms into lush green hills, terraced farmlands, and rushing rivers.

Day 2: Pokhara to Tatopani / Beni

Pokhara-Hemja-Kushma-Beni Bazaar-Rupse Fall-Tatopani

Today marks the beginning of your journey into the mountains. Leaving Pokhara's subtropical valley, you'll follow the legendary Kali Gandaki River northward into the world's deepest gorge. You will cross the scenic town of Beni Bazaar, Rupse waterfall and pass through village of Beni and Tatopani. After checking into your guesthouse, you can head to the natural hot springs for a therapeutic soak. Overnight at Tatopani.

Day 3: Tatopani to Jomsom

Tatopani-Ghasa-Lete-Tukuche-Marpha-Jomsom

Today's drive is one of the most spectacular stretches of the entire journey. As you ascend deeper into the Kali Gandaki Gorge, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic and the air noticeably thinner. You will pass through Kalopani, where you'll have stunning close-up views of Dhaulagiri (8,167m) and Annapurna I (8,091m). As you approach Jomsom (2,720m), the capital of Mustang district, you'll feel the famous afternoon winds that sweep through this valley.

Things to see:

• Visit the local monastery and spin prayer wheels


• Explore the bustling bazaar with shops selling local handicrafts, turquoise jewelry, and Tibetan artifacts


• Try Marpha brandy, a local apple-based spirit famous throughout Nepal (but don't drink too much)


• Watch the sunset paint the surrounding peaks in shades of gold and pink

Day 4: Jomsom to Muktinath and Kagbeni

Jomsom-Kagbeni-Jharkot-Ranipauwa-Muktinath

Today you wake early to catch the morning light on the mountains before driving to the sacred Muktinath Temple. The drive from Jomsom to Muktinath takes you through increasingly barren, desert-like terrain. After reaching Ranipauwa, you have two options to reach the temple. You can either walk up the stone steps or ride on a horse. After reaching the temple you will enter the spiritual space of Muktinath.

• 108 Water Taps: Take a ritual bath under the 108 bull-faced water spouts arranged in a semicircle. The ice-cold water flows from the Gandaki River and is believed to cleanse sins and grant liberation.


• Muktinath Temple: The main pagoda-style temple houses statues of Vishnu and other deities. Hindus worship here as one of the 108 Divya Desam temples.


• Jwala Mai Temple: Just a few minutes' walk from the main temple, this small shrine has an eternal flame that burns from natural gas seeping through rock, surrounded by water and earth.

Day 5: Kagbeni to Charang (Upper Mustang Entry)

Today is a milestone as you enter Upper Mustang, a region that was completely closed to foreigners until 1992 and still requires special permits. Your first village in Upper Mustang is Chele at 3,050 meters. Stop here for tea and acclimatization before continuing the journey. You will approach Ghami at 3,520 meters. This village is home to the longest mani wall in Mustang, a massive stone structure stretching over 200 meters and covered in prayer stones carved with sacred Buddhist mantras.

Finally, you arrive at Charang at 3,560 meters, the last major village before Lo Manthang. Walk through the village to see traditional Tibetan houses, many with beautifully painted doorways and windows.

Day 6: Charang to Lo Manthang

This short yet spectacular drive takes you across high-altitude plateaus with views of grazing yaks, nomadic camps, and snow-capped peaks near the Tibet border. As you approach, Lo Manthang appears like a mirage, an ancient walled city founded in 1380 by Ame Pal, once the capital of the Kingdom of Lo.

After check-in, explore the medieval city with its mud-brick walls, narrow alleys, and historic sites like the Royal Palace and monasteries such as Champa Lhakhang and Thubchen Gompa. Walk through traditional streets, observe local rituals, and enjoy a peaceful sunset over the Himalayan desert landscape.

Day 7: Lo Manthang Exploration: Caves, Culture & Tibet Border

Spend the day exploring beyond the city, starting with the mysterious caves of Chhoser carved into red cliffs, some over 2,000 years old. These caves, still debated by archaeologists, were used for meditation, burial, or shelter and showcase ancient Himalayan ingenuity.

Later, visit the Tibet-border viewpoint at Korala Pass for breathtaking high-altitude scenery. Return to Lo Manthang to experience local culture, traditional food like tsampa and butter tea, monastery prayers, and authentic Tibetan crafts before enjoying your final evening in this remote kingdom.

Day 8: Drive from Lo Manthang to Jomsom

Begin your return journey through Upper Mustang, revisiting dramatic landscapes with fresh perspective. Stop at places like Dhakmar’s red cliffs, Ghami village, and Kagbeni checkpoint as you exit the restricted region.

Arrive in Jomsom by afternoon, where modern comforts feel refreshing after remote travel. Enjoy hot showers, local cuisine like momo and relax while reflecting on your unforgettable Mustang experience.

Day 9: Jomsom to Pokhara

Drive back through the Kali Gandaki Gorge, witnessing a dramatic shift from arid Mustang landscapes to lush greenery. Stop at Marpha village for apple products and explore local culture along the way. Continue via Tatopani and Beni Bazaar before reaching Pokhara. Enjoy lakeside relaxation, shopping, and a comfortable evening after your mountain adventure.

Day 10: Pokhara to Kathmandu

Return to Kathmandu either by scenic drive via Mugling or a short 25 to 30 minute flight with Himalayan views. The drive offers a complete journey experience, while the flight saves time.

Upon arrival, explore sites like Swayambhunath or Thamel, or relax before departure. This marks the end of a once-in-a-lifetime journey through sacred sites and remote Himalayan culture.
